Online ukulele tuner
Set for a ukulele in standard tuning, G C E A with the high G, which is how soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles are tuned. Turn on the microphone, pluck a string and turn the peg until the needle stops in the middle.
The sound is analysed on your device and dropped straight away. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
Auto follows the string closest to what you play. Tap a string to tune only that one.
How to tune a ukulele
- Turn on the microphone and hold the ukulele a hand's width from it, in a quiet room. An acoustic ukulele is quiet, so bring it closer rather than plucking harder.
- Start with the G string, the one nearest your chin as you hold the ukulele: G4, at 392 Hz. Pluck it with your thumb and let it ring before you read the needle.
- Then C4 (262 Hz), E4 (330 Hz) and A4 (440 Hz). Left of centre is flat, so tighten the peg; right is sharp, so loosen it. Within 5 cents the dial turns green.
- Come up to the note rather than down to it: if a string is sharp, loosen it a little below the note and tighten it back up, and it will hold its pitch better. Then check all four once more.

Questions
What notes is a ukulele tuned to?
Standard tuning is G4 C4 E4 A4, from the string nearest your chin to the one nearest the floor: 392, 262, 330 and 440 Hz. The G sits above the C rather than below it. This is called re-entrant or high-G tuning, and it is why the G string is often thinner than the C. Soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles all use it. The tuner's reference is A = 440 Hz.
Can I tune a low-G ukulele with it?
Yes, though not with the Ukulele preset: it expects the high G and reads a low G (G3, 196 Hz) as a C several semitones flat. Switch to Chromatic, which shows the nearest note for whatever you play, and tune the low string until the dial shows G3 in the centre. The C, E and A strings tune as usual.
Does it tune a baritone ukulele?
There is no baritone preset, but a baritone ukulele is tuned D3 G3 B3 E4, the same notes as the four thinnest strings of a guitar. Pick Guitar · standard and tune those four: Auto follows whichever string you play. Chromatic works as well.
Why does my new ukulele keep going out of tune?
New nylon and fluorocarbon strings stretch for the first few days, sometimes a week, and keep drifting flat while they settle. That is normal: retune each time you pick the ukulele up, and the strings hold longer every time. Heat, cold and humidity move the pitch too, so tune again after bringing it in from outside.
