Clean up a voice recording online
Record your voice on a phone or computer, or upload a file. In a few seconds you get it back with less noise and hum and an even level, like a podcast. Before and after are one button apart.
What it will not fix
- No fix for room echo: record in a furnished room, the phone 15 to 20 cm from your mouth.
- No fix for distortion: if the loud parts crackle, move back and record again.
- Not for a voice over music from a speaker: the music gets cut with the noise.
Up to 5 minutes. Nothing is sent until you press Clean up.
How it works
Record or upload
Press the button and talk, sing or rap, up to 5 minutes, or upload a file you already have. The browser's own noise suppression is switched off, so the take is exactly what the microphone heard.
Pick singing or speech
Singing or rap is gentler and keeps sung notes whole; Speech cleans harder. The server filters the noise, takes out rumble and harsh S sounds, evens out the level and sets the loudness.
Compare and download
Switch between the original and the enhanced take at the same spot and the same loudness, then save the result as WAV or MP3.

Questions
How do I improve the sound quality of a voice recording?
Record or upload it here, pick Singing or rap, or Speech, and press Clean up. The recording is passed through a chain of filters on our server: a high-pass filter against rumble and handling noise, spectral noise reduction, a de-esser, a compressor, a touch of presence around 3 to 4 kHz, a limiter, and loudness normalisation to about -16 LUFS, the level podcasts use. You can compare before and after, then download WAV or MP3.
How do I remove background noise from a voice memo?
Upload the voice memo (M4A, MP3 or WAV), pick Speech and press Clean up. Steady background noise (a fan, hum, hiss) gets much quieter. Sudden sounds like a door, music in the background and room echo are not removed.
Will my phone recording sound like it was made in a studio?
No, and nothing honest can promise that. A phone microphone stays a phone microphone. What you get is a recording that is cleaner, steadier and louder, like a decent podcast: less hiss and hum, no rumble, no harsh S sounds. Tools that claim studio sound from a phone usually re-synthesise the voice with a speech model, which can invent words and does not work with singing.
Can it remove echo or fix a distorted recording?
No. Room echo and distortion are part of the sound itself, and this tool does not try to rebuild it. Both are easier to prevent: record in a room with soft furnishings rather than a bathroom or an empty room, hold the phone 15 to 20 cm from your mouth, and back off for the loud parts. The level meter turns red when you are too close.
Can I clean up a vocal I recorded over a beat?
Not well. Music playing from a speaker under the voice counts as noise and gets partly cut, so the beat comes out patchy. Record the vocal with headphones on instead, so only your voice reaches the microphone. If you already have a mixed recording, our vocal remover can pull the voice out of the music first.
Is it free, and what happens to my recording?
Free: up to 3 recordings a day without an account; a free sign-in with Telegram or Google gives you up to 40 an hour. A recording made on this page can be up to 5 minutes; an uploaded file up to 60 MB and 6 minutes. Nothing is sent until you press Clean up. Then the recording is processed on our own server, never sent to another company, and deleted with the result about two hours later.
